INTERIOR DESIGNER

CRAFT OR FUTURE POSTER
A3 SINGLE SIDED POSTER
The task required a visualise of our understanding of the principles and methods of design thinking in an A3 poster. To achieve this, we had to read the article “The future of design: When you come to a fork in the road, take it” and reflect on it in our poster design.

After reading the article, I realised that I am a hands-on person who loves to become immersed in the creation process of a design product. I want to design and create products of beauty and pleasure in both my life and the lives of others, by utilising the technology available to me to create profound experiences.

The key methodology of design thinking is the double diamond method: Discover, Define, Develop, Deliver. The first step is Discover, this is where extensive research is done about the problem and its context. Key questions include: Who is it about? What is the goal? Why does the problem exist? Why is it a problem? It is in this stage that extensive primary and secondary research is conducted. The second is Define. This is where the collected research is analysed for patterns, ideas are synthesised, and areas of opportunities are identified.

At the end of this step, a ‘How Might We question’ is established. The third stage is Develop. It is in this stage the brainstorming of potential solutions occurs. It is very important during this process to keep an open mind and to build on ideas.
All ideas are then evaluated, and the best will be prototyped. Finally, the last step is Deliver. During this stage, the chosen ideas are brought to life in the form of a prototype. Prototyping early and testing in situ with people is a key part of the design thinking process. These prototypes are tested and refined as many times as is necessary, identifying what is useful, appropriate, and valuable. When these principles are used correctly the outcome is a design solution that is feasible, viable and desirable. As designers, we can apply this method to our own creations. By focusing on the human element, we can create beautiful products and solutions that are ethical, useful and valuable.

I intend to use design thinking methods and principles in my future as an interior designer, approaching issues in my industry with a fresh perspective, addressing causes and facilitating the future of design.
